Where do I get the Symbol and Zapf Dingbats fonts?

Applies to: XpdfViewer, XpdfPrint, XpdfRasterizer

The original "Base-14" fonts (from the PDF spec) included Symbol and Zapf Dingbats. They're not used very often anymore, but you may still encounter PDF file which use them.

You can download free versions of the two fonts from the xpdf download site. (Note that the fonts are licensed under the GPL.)

You will need to create an xpdfrc file, and then add a 'fontFile' line for each font:

fontFile Symbol "/full/path/to/s050000l.pfb" fontFile ZapfDingbats "/full/path/to/d050000l.pfb"

Replace '/full/path/to/' with the appropriate path for your system.

Note that Symbol and Zapf Dingbats are PostScript fonts, and are not the same as the Symbol and Wingdings fonts on Windows.
